  1. QUICK START CONFIGURATION FOR QEDIT 2.03

  6. This article will help you to quickly configure "C)olors/screen,"
  7. "O)therstuff," "P)rinter options," and "T)ab settings."  These features are
  8. configured by running the program QCONFIG.EXE.  Until you have the time and
  9. inclination to customize every feature, you can use these instructions to
  10. get you up and running immediately.  I have chosen all feature
  11. configurations to be compatible with most people's systems and needs.
  12.  
  13. (NOTE: The "--------------" line does not appear on screen, but I have used
  14. it to indicate beginning and end of QCONFIG.EXE displays.)

  16. When you run QCONFIG.EXE, this menu appears:

  20. Choose One of the Following by pressing the indicated Key:

  32. Menu selections are made by pressing the first letter of each choice.

  34. "K)eys" allows you to configure your customized keystroke commands.  If you
  35. use the author's default setup (QCONFIG.DAT) for keystroke commands, you
  36. can skip this selection.  If you want to use the WordStar-compatible setup
  37. QWSKEY.DAT, or your own customized setup (or you made any changes to
  38. QCONFIG.DAT or QWSKEY.DAT), you must select "K)eys."

  42. COLOR/MONOCHROME CONFIGURATION

  45. "C)olor" allows you to configure QEDIT's screen color environment.  When
  46. you type "C", the first section of color configuration appears, and looks
  47. like this (with the exception of the single character at the end
  48. of each line):

  51. Statusline position: "T" for top, "B" for bottom  [T] : T
  52. Do you want the display "boxed" (Y/N)? Y : Y

  58. The single character at the end of each line is the selection I suggest you
  59. make, until you have the time to do your own customization.  (NOTE:  If
  60. your screen produces "snow" in the QEDIT environment, reconfigure line 4
  61. ("snow" checking) by typing "Y" for "yes.")

  63. (NOTE:  The selections immediately left of the colon are the last default
  64. configurations made with QCONFIG.EXE, and hence your configuration list
  65. will not match most of the ones shown in this article; this applies to all
  66. my examples. You need only be concerned with what you will input.)

  68. The second section is where you actually make your color choices, and
  69. begins with a color chart, like so:

  86. Since you can't see the actual QEDIT environment when selecting color
  87. combinations, you usually have to re-do color configurations several times
  88. until they conform to your preferences.  The following instructions,
  89. especially for color monitors, save you this headache.

  94. If you have a monochrome display (or prefer monochrome), choose the
  95. following selections below.  (The numbers to the right of the last colon
  96. are the numbers you are to input.)  This gives you a "reverse video" (black
  97. on white) text display.  If you prefer "normal video" (white on black),
  98. replace "15" with "112", and "112" with "15."  (15 = white on black, 112 =
  99. black on white.)  (NOTE:  For monochromes, "white" represents "amber,"
  100. "green," or whatever color applies to your monitor.)  If you want a COLOR
  101. display (non-monochrome), skip to the COLOR section.

  150. hence can be quite confusing to the novice user.  If you input the same
  151. data as appears below, at line's end (to the right of the colon), QEDIT
  152. will be configured for most users' needs (and avoid a headache):
